Deepika Padukone (born January 5, 1986) is an Indian actress primarily working in Hindi films. Among the highest-paid actresses in India, she has won three Filmfare Awards and is included in the list of Time magazine’s 2018 100 Most Influential People in the world. She was also honoured with the Time100 Impact Award in 2022.

Born in Copenhagen to badminton player Prakash Padukone, Deepika spent her formative years in Bangalore. Initially pursuing badminton at the national level during her adolescence, she chose to leave sports to pursue a career in fashion modeling.

Soon, she began receiving offers for film roles, making her acting debut in the 2006 Kannada film “Aishwarya.” Subsequently, Padukone made her Bollywood debut with the dual role in the romance “Om Shanti Om” (2007) alongside Shah Rukh Khan, winning her Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

While she received acclaim for her lead role in the romantic comedy “Love Aaj Kal” (2009), she faced a brief setback afterwards. However, the romantic comedy “Cocktail” (2012) marked a turning point in her career, followed by successful roles in films like “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Chennai Express” (both 2013), “Happy New Year” (2014), and “Padmaavat” (2018).

She also appeared in the Hollywood action film “XXX: Return of Xander Cage” (2017). Padukone received critical acclaim for her roles in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period dramas “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” (2013) and “Padmaavat” (2018), winning two more Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

After a few setbacks and commercially unsuccessful films produced by her company, Padukone made a successful comeback with major roles in “Pathan” and a brief role in “Jawaan,” both being the highest-grossing action films of 2023.

In addition to her career as an actor, Padukone founded the Live Love Laugh Foundation to promote mental health awareness in India.

She develops her own clothing line for women, writes columns for a newspaper, performs in stage shows, and is a well-known celebrity brand spokesperson for various companies because of her vocal views on problems like depression and feminism. Her other endeavours include a self-care brand and business investments. Deepika Padukone is married to her co-star Ranveer Singh.
