Mumbai (Maharashtra), December 29, 2023: The year 2023 proved to be a spectacular one for Bollywood enthusiasts as stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Salman Khan delivered outstanding performances, reigning on the silver screen with their blockbuster films.
As we bid farewell to this year, it’s essential for cinema lovers, especially avid film enthusiasts, to take a moment and reflect on those male actors who entertained us with their acting skills, contributing to making 2023 a remarkable year for cinema.
Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan
Undoubtedly, 2023 was Shah Rukh Khan’s year. After a hiatus of four years, Shah Rukh made a stunning comeback in January with Siddharth Anand’s ‘Pathan.’ In the film, Shah Rukh portrayed an action-packed avatar, leaving everyone in awe.
The movie shattered several box office records and successfully secured its place in the list of highest-grossing films in the Indian film industry. Remember the ominous toll of death during 2021 and 2022 for the Hindi film industry? ‘Pathan’ not only put an end to Bollywood’s drought at the box office but also marked Shah Rukh’s first hit film in four years, following movies like ‘Zero’ and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal.’
Following ‘Pathan,’ King Khan returned to the cinemas in September with the film ‘Jawaan,’ directed by Atlee. Once again, Shah Rukh appeared in an action-packed avatar, and like ‘Pathan,’ ‘Jawaan’ succeeded in creating a strong impact among the audience, grossing over 1000 crores worldwide. Needless to say, it was a splendid year for Shah Rukh.
But Shah Rukh didn’t stop there. On December 21, he collaborated with Rajkumar Hirani for the first time, bringing ‘Danki.’ The film revolves around the issue of migration and is named after the term “Gadha Yatra,” referring to the perilous and often treacherous routes people take to reach places they aspire to migrate.
While the film received mixed reviews from the audience, it is performing well at the box office. Although it may not match the frenzy created by ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jawaan,’ it adds another feather to Shah Rukh’s cap in 2023.
Now, it remains to be seen what Shah Rukh has in store for his fans in the coming year, as he has not yet announced his upcoming projects.
Bollywood Angry Man Sunny Deol
After more than two decades since ‘Gadar,’ Sunny Deol tasted significant success. In ‘Gadar 2,’ Sunny reprised his iconic role as Tara Singh from the acclaimed film ‘Gadar’ (2001). The audience embraced the sequel with open arms, creating history at the box office.
Post the success of ‘Pathan,’ ‘Gadar 2’ swiftly entered the 500 crore club. Talking about the film’s tremendous success, Sunny expressed, “I was under a lot of stress at that time, and when this film came to the cinemas, I don’t know why it felt like God had come inside me. I was crying, and I kept laughing all night and day. I met my father (Dharmendra) and told him, ‘No, I am not inebriated; I am happy about what I should do.'”
As for Sunny’s upcoming projects, he will be seen playing a lead role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film ‘Lahore 1947,’ produced by Aamir Khan.
Before this, Sunny and Aamir have never worked together. However, in the past, these two stalwarts have engaged in a competitive box-office clash, where both emerged victorious. The first iconic clash was witnessed in 1990 when Aamir Khan’s ‘Dil’ and Sunny Deol’s ‘Ghayal’ were released on the same day.
Then in 1996, it was ‘Raja Hindustani’ vs. ‘Ghatak,’ followed by the epic box office clash of ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Gadar’ in 2001, creating a historic showdown in Indian cinema. Now, for the first time, this duo is working together on a project.
Bollywood Tiger Salman Khan
Bollywood’s Bhaijaan Salman Khan graced the screen with two films this year. While his film ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ failed to impress the audience, ‘Tiger 3’ was enough for Salman’s contemporaries to acknowledge that he is indeed the best ‘Tiger’ in Bollywood. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, ‘Tiger 3’ garnered a box office collection of 466.63 crores.
Speaking about the colossal box office collection of ‘Tiger 3,’ Salman Khan shared with ANI, “It was the time of Diwali, and the World Cup was going on, and everyone was interested in it, but despite that, the figures we have received are fantastic. We are very grateful and happy for it.” ‘Tiger 3’ is the third instalment of the Tiger franchise and is part of the YRF Spy Universe, like ‘War’ and ‘Pathan.’
Interestingly, the film includes a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan and a post-credit scene featuring Hrithik Roshan. This film, like its predecessors – ‘Tiger’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ – focuses on RAW agent Tiger (Salman) and ISI agent Zoya (Katrina Kaif) as they embark on a new mission.

Bollywood Chocolate Boy Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir is undeniably one of the finest actors in Hindi cinema. With his versatile acting skills, he has consistently proven to be the true heir to the legacy of the Kapoor dynasty. He can fit into any character and make it believable. ‘Animal’ is no exception.
Once again, he surprised everyone with his powerful performance. ‘Animal’ is now Ranbir’s biggest hit, although criticism has been directed at its portrayal of hatred towards women. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga of ‘Kabir Singh’ fame, the film was released in March and performed well at the box office.
Before displaying his gangster character in ‘Animal,’ Ranbir revived his chocolate boy avatar with ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.’ The film, released in March, was a hit, and Ranbir had a special year with two consecutive hit films.
It has been a special year for Ranbir, who has given two hit films in a row.
